STRAWBERRY HILL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT, SANDUSKY, OHIO

Strawberry Hill WWTP, Sandusky, Ohio
Strawberry Hill is a truck stop convenience store at a cross-roads near Sandusky, Ohio. The facility was using porta-potties for sanitary service to their customers. As part of the Owner’s plan to remodel the facility and to include a 40 unit motel, REI was contracted to plan, design, and permit a wastewater treatment plant to replace the portable toilets. REI prepared the wastewater treatment design, Preliminary Engineering Report, plans and applications for permit for an 8,000 gpd wastewater treatment plant. Due to the lack of positive head and access for a point of discharge, implementation of these plans is on hold while the Owner seeks an easement from the Ohio Department of Transportation to bore the discharge pipe to a suitable location for discharge to Pipe Creek. REI revised the plans and applications to Ohio EPA for the installation of a pre-cast 7,500 gallon temporary sewage holding tank. The holding tank design includes a high-level alarm and auto-dialer direct to the sewage hauling company. The tank was designed so that it may be incorporated into the future treatment plant as flow equalization. The tank was installed and placed into operation in January 2021. |
